J. Edgar Hoover Lives

What does it take to bring down the ferocious weight of the Federal Bureau of Investigations — one of the most feared and powerful police organizations in the world — on a US presidential campaign? Scandalously little.

During and after the 2016 presidential campaign, a small group of highly placed FBI officials, armed with shoddy opposition research supplied by the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton campaign, ignored established FBI procedures, abandoned minimal professional standards, and even committed outright fraud in their pursuit of Donald Trump, their great, orange whale.

The collusion scandal of 2016 was not between the Trump campaign and Russia — a vicious partisan smear debunked by the years-long Mueller investigation. The collusion scandal of 2016 was much closer to home: between the Democratic Party and the FBI. As Missouri Senator Josh Hawley summarizes, “Essentially the Democrat Party bought themselves an FBI investigation. The Democrats went out and paid for this fake dossier. They fed it to the FBI, and the FBI used it to get surveillance of the Trump campaign during a presidential election. This has never happened before in American history.”

Even Trump antagonist, former FBI Director James Comey, has been forced to admit, “I was wrong. I was overconfident… There was real sloppiness.”

There was also outright lying. One FBI lawyer even doctored evidence to falsely accuse Trump campaign advisor, Carter Page.

During a hearing on the FBI’s misconduct, Texas Senator Ted Cruz exploded, “Any responsible leader when hearing that you’re talking about sending in spies and sending in a wiretap on any presidential nominee should say what in the hell are we doing?”
