Free Speech: If you can get it

Big Tech: Watch out! Big Brother is watching. His name is President Donald J. Trump. He is Twitter’s undisputed 140 character king, and is taking a squinty eyed, purse lipped look at Twitter, Facebook, Google, and old school media for what he and many others believe is an unmistakable pattern of bias against conservative speech. Last week, Facebook banned a number of controversial activists mostly from the far right. Trump fired back in all caps, exclamation points, and righteous indignation:

"It’s getting worse and worse for Conservatives on social media!... This is the United States of America — and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!!”

It’s also getting worse and worse for on-the-ground, conservative reporters. Last week, at Portland, Oregon’s annual May Day protest extravaganza, freelance journalist Andy Ngo was punched in the stomach and sprayed in the eyes with bear mace. Ngo asked police for help. They did nothing. Ngo tells IW the protesters had been targeting him for months: “Shockingly, they do this quite openly in front of the Portland Police who take no steps to protect me or other journalists.”

IW asked a recognizable, long time, working actor to weigh in. He’s currently up for a lead in a hot television series being produced by one of Forbes Magazine’s most powerful entertainers. He asked to remain anonymous: “The profit margin is astronomical on many faith/family/conservative films. Yet, the big Hollywood studios... won’t touch [them].” Bottom line: “When Hollywood bypasses the almighty dollar for reasons of content, you know the bias and bigotry is real.”

Trump knows, too. And he’s watching.
