Stop the presses! President Trump appears to have been vindicated by arch rival, the New York Times. The paper of record and blue state news bible reports that America’s southern border is at a “breaking point,” and that “the number of migrant families crossing the southwest border has once again broken records, with unauthorized entries nearly double what they were a year ago.” One might even call it a “crisis.”
Senate Judiciary Chairman and newly zealous Trump ally Lindsey Graham warned, last week, in his signature South Carolina drawl that, “It’s not a hoax. It’s not a manufactured crisis. It’s not a cable television news ploy. It is real. It is serious. It is a threat.”
Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan reports that “for the first time in recorded history, more than half of all of those crossing are members of family units.” The number of illegal immigrants claiming asylum has more than doubled between fiscal year 2017 and 2018.
Department of Homeland Security chief Kirstjen Nielsen lays out the unwelcome statistics. In February, border authorities saw a 30% spike in arrests of illegal immigrants. Officials apprehended or blocked over 76,000 border jumpers. NBC reports that the number of illegal immigrant crossings, last month, was its highest in twelve years and the highest single month total since Trump was elected.
Vice President Mike Pence took a Twitter victory lap triumphantly quoting hometown, fake news, mortal enemy, Amazon head Jeff Bezos acquisition, the Washington Post: “Family migration, already at record levels, rocketed to new high in February.”
The question remains: Will Trump get his $5.7 billion wall? And will Congress pay for it?
