Border Wars

Sunday afternoon, the “nonexistent” caravan crisis erupted into violent conflict on America’s southern border.

Mexican officials estimate that roughly 500 migrants attempted to rush the US border from the Mexican state of Baja California. The migrants attempt to “violently” and “illegally” climb over and through the border fence, as described by Mexican authorities, was met with tear gas by US border agents.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports that the mostly male melee attacked agents with heavy rocks and other dangerous projectiles.

The Twittersphere reacted to the chaotic scenes with immediate condemnation – of the US. International pop star Rihanna called the non-lethal response “terrorism.” Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz suggested that the authorized use of tear gas violated the Chemical Weapons Convention. His hasty tweet has since been deleted. Congresswoman-elect and Democratic Socialist “It Girl” Alexandria Ocasio Cortez compared the 5,000 Central American migrants currently camped out in a Tijuana sports stadium to the Jews of World War Two desperately fleeing Hitler’s Final Solution.

Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, explained on CNN that using tear gas is, in fact, “an Obama written policy”. The Department of Homeland Security reveals that border agents deployed tear gas roughly once a month during the Obama years.

Meanwhile, a new poll released by El Universal, one of Mexico’s largest newspapers, finds that seven in ten Mexicans have a negative view of their illegal visitors.

President Trump advises Mexico to escort the trespassers home: “Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it any way you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.”
